The image depicts an AK shaped key with its barrel point to a sky blue map of Israel/Palestine. The latter is bright and made to look like a light-filled window in a dark surrounding. The image of the old fashioned iron key has become the symbol of the Palestinian demand for the right of return. The latter refers to one of the major demands of the Palestinian leadership from Israel, namely, that Palestinians who left/were forced to leave their houses during the 1948 war, and became refugees, will be allowed to return to the territory of Israel and resettle in their original place of residence. The clear implication is that the gun (and violence) is the “key” to securing the return of Palestinians.
The key hole became a popular symbol during the period leading up to May 15, 2011, which Facebook groups have declared as a day of return of Palestinian refugees to ancestral homes in all of Israel/Palestine.
