The image brings a number of elements together to create a sense of urgency to join the ranks of the Islamic Front for the Iraqi Resistance (al-Jabha al-Islamiya li al-Moqawama al-Iraqiya, or JAMI). The rough waters, the dark cloudy skies and the image of what is clearly a drowning victim’s outstretched hand, portray a troubled Iraq and the enemy’s occupation. More specifically, the appearance of the strong, saving arm, combined with the clouds (the bearer of rain and a sign of good things to come) evokes divine compassion, as well as a significant sense of strength. The latter is also expressed in the slogan, which reads: “al-yad al-aqwa li-inqadh al-‘iraq min al-ihtilal” (“the most powerful hand to save Iraq from the occupation”). In this context references the JAMI’s claim that they represent the “most powerful” hand in Iraq.
