Meet CDT Ekaterin Gjonaj, the CTC Cadet of the Month for April 2018. At West Point, CDT Gjonaj is an International History major and a Terrorism Studies minor. Hailing from Addison, Illinois, Ekaterin spends her free time reading, working out, doing yoga, and learning new languages.
Through the CTC, Ekaterin has had the opportunity to attend and complete the Program on Terrorism and Security Studies at the George C. Marshall Center in Garmisch, Germany. She also was a member of USMA’s award-winning team that competed in the international competition sponsored by the U.S. State Department and Facebook to create a social media campaign to counter the narrative of the Islamic State. The team was invited to brief officials at the White House and at the U.S. State Department, and their project was featured in The Washington Post.
CDT Gjonaj plans to commission in May as an Air Defense Artillery officer. After graduation, she will attend the Basic Officer Leadership Course at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and will subsequently be stationed in Korea. She intends to pursue careers in the Army and in the national security community.
