Dr. Scott Helfstein was invited to present his most recent findings on the Combating Terrorism Center’s crime-terror project at an event sponsored by the UK Home Office and held in London on October 22 and 23. The event was organized by the National Security Staff and the Department of State, with Assistant Secretary of State Brownfield and Homeland Security Advisor Brennan in attendance. It included participants from across the U.S. interagency including the Office of the Secretary of Defense, many of the combatant commands, the National Counterterrorism Center, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Immigration and Customs Enforcement with many of their UK counterparts. Dr. Helfstein’s research examined the interconnectivity of criminal and terrorist actors across the globe, focusing on explanations for interstate social connectivity.
