Major Scott N. McKay was born in Clinton, Maryland.  Major McKay received an ROTC commission from Norwich University in 2002 and holds a Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry. Following the completion of the Infantry Officer’s Basic Course and the U.S. Army Ranger Course, Major McKay was assigned to 1-503rd IN (AASLT), 2nd Infantry Division as an Anti-tank Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer and a Rifle Platoon Leader.

In 2004 MAJOR McKay was assigned to Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, where he served as a Rifle Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer. In June of 2006 Major McKay departed 1st Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment in order to attend the Infantry Captains Career Course at Fort Benning, Georgia.

At the completion of the Infantry Captains Course Major McKay was assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division (504th Parachute Infantry Regiment) in January 2007. Initially serving as the BCT Training Officer until June 2008 when he took command of Bravo Company, 1-504th PIR.

In August of 2009 Major McKay was reassigned to Headquarters Company, 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, located at Fort Lewis, Washington, where he served as the Battalion Assistant Liaison Officer and Battalion Training Officer.  In March of 2011, Major McKay took command of Charlie Company. In September of 2012, Major McKay was selected for the General Wayne A. Downing Scholarship.

Major McKay is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, the Infantry Captains Career Course, Ranger School, Airborne School, Jumpmaster School, and Air Assault School.  He has deployed seven times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. His and decorations include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Expert Infantryman’s badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Ranger Tab, and the Air Assault Badge.  His awards include the Bronze Star Medal (w/ 2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (w/ OLC), the Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal (w/ 3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (w/ 4 OLC), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (w/ 2 Campaign Stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (w/ 3 Campaign Stars), GWOT Expeditionary Medal, GWOT Service Medal, and the Korean Defense Medal.

Major McKay is married to Major Kelly McKay, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, who is currently assigned to the Madigan Army Medical Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Washington.
