Major Chaney graduated from the United States Military Academy on June 2, 2001 with a Commission as an Engineer Officer. His military schooling includes Engineer Officer Basic Course, Basic Dive Officer Course, Salvage Dive Officer Course, Ranger School, Airborne School, Infantry Captains Career Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, Special Forces Arabic Language Course, SERE-C, Combat Dive Qualification Course, and the Command and General Staff College.

Major Chaney’s assignments include serving as the Executive Officer for the 7th Engineer Dive Detachment and Assistant Operations Officer for the 29th Engineer Battalion, 45th Corps Support Group. Following the Infantry Captains Career Course and Special Forces Qualification Course, Major Chaney served as an Executive Officer for B Company, 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and Commander of Special Forces Operational Detachment-Alpha 083. Major Chaney last served as the Assistant Operations Officer for 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

Major Chaney’s awards and decorations include the Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal with one star, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Valorous Unit Award with one oak leaf cluster, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Parachutist Badge, Naval Dive Officer’s Badge, Special Operations Dive Badge, Ranger Tab, and the Special Forces Tab.
