Ian MacPherson graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 2014 with a B.S. in Economics and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer. In his first assignment, Ian served as an Airborne Rifle Platoon Leader in the 173rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in Vicenza, Italy. He then served as a Ranger Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer in the 1st Ranger Battalion.

As a captain, Ian was assigned to the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team at Joint Base Lewis-McChord where he served as a Brigade Planner and Rifle Company Commander. He then served as the Alpha and Delta Company Commander in 2nd Ranger Battalion. Ian has conducted five combat deployments.

His military education includes the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Pathfinder School, Jumpmaster School, and the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course. Ian received the General Douglas MacArthur Leadership Award in 2021.

Ian is married to Evelyn MacPherson of West Palm Beach, Florida. He is currently pursuing a Master of Public Affairs from Princeton University’s School of International and Public Affairs.
