Captain Steve Scheffert commissioned as an Infantry Officer after graduating the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2012. In his first assignment at 10th Mountain Division, he served as a Weapons Platoon Leader, Rifle Company Executive Officer, and Aide-de-Camp. In this assignment, Steve deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

As a Special Forces Officer in 10th Special Forces Group, Steve served as a Detachment Commander, Battalion Assistant Operations, and Commander of the Group Headquarters Company. Steve has deployed and conducted operations throughout Europe to include the High North, Poland, and Ukraine.

Steve’s military education includes the Infantry Basic Officer Leader’s Course, Ranger School, Airborne School, Air Assault School, Special Operations Forces Captains Career Course, Special Forces Qualification Course, and Military Free Fall School.

Steve will be pursuing a Master in Public Policy in Global Affairs from the Jackson School at Yale University, starting this autumn. He is married to Kelsey Scheffert, and they have one daughter, Maren.
