On 18 August 2011 the Daily Times (Pakistan), Washington Post, NPR, ABC, and MSNBC carried an Associated Press article written by Kathy Gannon about Pakistan’s claims that it can bring the Haqqani network to the negotiating table.
Citing the CTC’s report on the Haqqani network as evidence, the article noted that such an offer poses challenges for the United States given that the “The Haqqani network has been more important to the development and sustainment of al-Qaida and the global jihad than any other single actor or group.” The article also highlighted the “Deep links…found by the West Point study between the Haqqani network and Pakistan’s intelligence agency, known as ISI.”
