Two recent articles by The New York Times featured research published by the Combating Terrorism Center. In a June 3 article entitled “Manchester Bomber Met With ISIS Unit in Libya, Officials Say,” authors Rukmini Callimachi and Eric Schmitt cited CTC analysis of al-Qa`ida personnel documents as well as a February 2017 CTC Sentinel article by Georg Heil in examining the Manchester bomber’s ties to an Islamic State unit in Libya. Then on 10 June, The New York Times published an article co-written by Callimachi and Laure Fourquet entitled “Long Before It Lost Turf, ISIS Was Already Targeting Britain,” which cited a March 2016 CTC Sentinel article by Raffaello Pantucci on the threat posed to Britain by the Islamic State.
