An October 25th article in The New York Times featured findings from a recently published report by the Combating Terrorism Center. The article, which focused on Boko Haram’s use of young females as suicide bombers, cited Dr. Jason Warner’s report “Exploding Stereotypes: The Unexpected Operational and Demographic Characteristics of Boko Haram’s Suicide Bombers.” The CTC report’s findings were based on an original dataset—created by Dr. Warner, the CTC’s Africa subject matter expert, and his co-author Hilary Matfess of Yale University—of all Boko Haram suicide bombings from their first deployment in April 2011 to June 2017.
