Downing Scholar MAJ Kevin Mott was featured in a War on the Rocks article this week, highlighting his work on a team that focused on autonomous UAV control and threat detection. The article details how MAJ Mott worked with engineers, academics, and other experts via his “Skynet” team to augment existing technology (the Android Tactical Assault Kit, or ATAK) in order to advance drone capability in better identifying individuals on the ground.
The Downing Scholarship program, which is run by the Combating Terrorism Center, grants selected officers the opportunity to attend a fully funded graduate program and return immediately to the force upon graduation. More information about the Downing program is available here.
