On July 31st 2013, CTC members Gabriel Koehler-Derrick and Erich Marquardt traveled to Fort Riley Kansas to present two lectures to members of the 1st Infantry Division in support of their role as they prepare to become the Regionally Aligned Force (RAF) for AFRICOM. The lectures covered ongoing issues of state strength, the Arab Spring, and detailed profiles of some of the emerging militant groups in North Africa and the Sahel region. The CTC’s presentations were part of a larger series of lectures featuring Col. Cindy Jebb from the Department of Social Sciences as well as General (R) Carter Ham former AFRICOM commander.
