Dr. Scott Helfstein presented a talk titled “Norms, Nets and Neurons” at the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Anti-Terrorism Level IV Conference. The event is the highest level antiterrorism training offered by the Department of Defense servicing colonels and general officers. The talked focused on the current threat from radicalized individuals as well as leading edge research in the areas of communication, sociology, networks, neurobiology and technology. The talk aimed at helping senior officers and civilian equivalents better understand the way that ideology, value systems, social factors, group dynamics and adversary strategies work together to promulgate terrorist threats.
