The Combating Terrorism Center’s Class of 1971 Senior Fellow, Juan C. Zarate, was recently featured in two publications, The Washington Times and The Clearing House. In an interview with The Washington Times, Zarate discussed challenges the United States still faces in defeating the Islamic State financially and why he believes more economic pressure is needed against the group. And in an article he co-authored for The Clearing House, Zarate outlined the strengths and weaknesses of the modern AML/CFT system in deterring, detecting, and disrupting illicit financing.
