Assistant Secretary for Defense for Special Operations and Low Intensity Conflict Michael Sheehan visited West Point and the Combating Terrorism Center on Friday January 18th. Secretary Sheehan presented a lecture to all of the cadets currently enrolled in SS465 (Terrorism and Counterterrorism) as well as the Terrorism Minor cadets. At a roundtable of CTC faculty and staff as well as colleagues from the Social Sciences Department, Secretary Sheehan also provided some insights on the future shape of counter insurgency operations with specific reference to the challenges currently facing the United States in Mali and Syria. Secretary Sheehan was a distinguished fellow at the Combating Terrorism Center and is a West Point graduate, class of 1977.
