On 18 December, the Police Foundation released its report on the local police and emergency response to the 2016 Orlando Pulse nightclub attack. Commissioned by the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), the 200-page review details how first-responders handled the shooting on the night of June 12, 2016, and makes recommendations for improvements in training, particularly counterterrorism training for local law enforcement. The Police Foundation’s director of strategic studies, Frank Straub, is a non-resident fellow at the Combating Terrorism Center.
